Getting Started
Download GilledIt from the App Store or Google Play and tap "Sign Up." You can create an account using your email address, or sign in instantly with your Apple or Google account. It takes less than 30 seconds.
Yes. GilledIt is free to download and use. All core features (catch logging, the social feed, the fishing map, challenges, badges, and messaging) are free. The marketplace charges an 8% fee to sellers on completed transactions, but there is no subscription or "Pro" paywall.
GilledIt works on iPhones running iOS 15 or later and Android phones running Android 10 or later. The app also supports iPads and Android tablets. Your catch data syncs to the cloud and is accessible from any device.
Catch Log
Open GilledIt and tap the "+" button at the bottom of the screen. Select your species from the autocomplete list (200+ North American species supported), add up to 5 photos, and fill in the details: weight, length, bait, rod, reel, and any notes. Your GPS location is captured automatically if you allow it. Tap "Post" to share with the community, or toggle to "Private" to keep it in your personal logbook only.
Yes. GilledIt supports offline catch logging. If you're fishing somewhere with no cell signal (which is half the good spots, let's be honest), you can still log catches, add photos, and record all the details. Your catches will sync automatically when your phone reconnects to the internet.
GilledIt supports 200+ fish species found in North American waters, covering freshwater species (largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, walleye, crappie, catfish, bluegill, musky, northern pike), game fish (rainbow trout, brown trout, steelhead, salmon), and saltwater species (redfish, snook, striped bass, flounder, tarpon, mahi-mahi, and many more). New species are added regularly.
Map & Spots
The GilledIt fishing map shows public catches logged by the community on an interactive map powered by OpenStreetMap. You can filter by species, date range, and distance from your location. Tap any pin to see the catch details, species, and angler who caught it. The map helps you discover productive spots near you.
Yes. Use the species filter on the map screen to show only catches of specific species. You can also filter by date range and distance from your current location. This is useful for finding where particular species are being caught near you.
Marketplace
To sell on GilledIt's marketplace, go to the Marketplace tab and tap "Create Listing." Add photos, a description, your price in USD, and select the category (fresh catch, tackle, bait, or accessories). Payments are handled securely through Stripe, and you'll need to complete Stripe Connect onboarding the first time you sell. All sellers must comply with state fishing regulations, including minimum size limits.
GilledIt uses Stripe for all marketplace payments. Buyers pay securely via card, and sellers receive payouts to their bank account through Stripe Connect. GilledIt never sees or stores your full card details. The 8% platform fee is deducted before seller payouts.
GilledIt charges an 8% platform fee on completed marketplace transactions. This fee is deducted automatically from the seller's payout before it reaches their bank account. There are no hidden charges, listing fees, or monthly subscriptions.
Challenges & Badges
GilledIt runs weekly challenges that reward you for specific achievements: biggest catch of the week, most species logged, heaviest total weight, and more. Compete on community leaderboards that reset each week. There are also 30+ permanent badges across 7 categories. You earn XP from challenges and badges, which levels up your angler profile.
Leaderboards are calculated from verified catch data submitted through the app during the challenge period. Rankings update in real time as catches are logged. Weekly challenges reset every Monday at midnight. All-time leaderboards track cumulative statistics.
Account & Privacy
Tap "Forgot password?" on the login screen and enter the email address associated with your GilledIt account. You'll receive a password reset link within a few minutes. Check your spam folder if it doesn't arrive.
Go to Settings > Account > Delete Account. This will permanently remove your profile, catches, marketplace history, and all personal data from GilledIt within 30 days. This action cannot be undone. If you just want to take a break, consider deactivating instead.
