Terms of Service

Last updated: 21 July 2026

Key Points: What You’re Agreeing To

The short version. Please read the full terms below.

  • Be honest. Don't fake catches, inflate weights, or misrepresent what you're selling on the marketplace.
  • Be respectful. No abuse, harassment, or hate speech. This is a fishing community, not a battlefield.
  • Marketplace rules apply. Sellers are responsible for accurate listings, legal compliance, and fulfilling orders. GilledIt takes an 8% platform fee via Stripe.
  • Your content is yours. But by posting catches on GilledIt, you grant us a licence to display them in the app and on the website.
  • We can suspend accounts that violate community guidelines or marketplace rules.
  • English law applies. These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

1. Using GilledIt

GilledIt is a social fishing app available on iOS and Android, operated by Taine Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16343727) with its registered office at 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ, trading as GilledIt. By downloading, accessing, or using GilledIt, you agree to these Terms of Service with Taine Ltd. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

GilledIt provides catch logging, social features, an interactive fishing map, a marketplace for buying and selling fishing tackle, weekly challenges with leaderboards, and messaging. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any feature at any time.

You must be at least 13 years old to use GilledIt. If you are under 18, you must have permission from a parent or guardian. Marketplace features require you to be at least 18 years old.

2. Your Account

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and for all activity that occurs under it. Use a strong password and do not share your login credentials.

You must provide accurate information when creating your account. One person, one account. Do not create multiple accounts or impersonate others.

If you suspect unauthorised access to your account, contact us immediately at hello@gilledit.com.

3. Your Content (Catches, Photos, Posts)

You retain ownership of all content you post on GilledIt. Your catches, photos, comments, and profile information remain yours.

By posting content on GilledIt, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to display, reproduce, and distribute that content within the app and on the GilledIt website. This includes use in the social feed, Catch of the Week features, and marketing materials.

You may delete your content at any time. Once deleted, we will remove it from our systems, though cached or archived copies may persist briefly.

Do not post content that you do not own or have the right to share. Do not post illegal, harmful, or misleading content.

4. Community Guidelines

GilledIt is a community built on trust and shared passion for fishing. We expect all users to:

  • Be honest about catches: do not fake species, inflate weights, or post photos of fish you did not catch
  • Treat other anglers with respect: no harassment, abuse, bullying, or hate speech
  • Follow UK fishing regulations, including rod licence requirements, minimum sizes, and closed seasons
  • Do not spam, advertise, or promote third-party products outside the marketplace
  • Report violations using the in-app report function

Violations may result in warnings, temporary suspension, or permanent ban at our discretion.

5. The Marketplace: Buying & Selling Tackle

5.1 What the Marketplace Is

The GilledIt marketplace lets anglers buy and sell physical fishing equipment (rods, reels, terminal tackle, luggage, electronics and similar gear) directly with each other. GilledIt provides the platform, payment processing and buyer protection described below; the sale contract for each item is between the buyer and the seller. Most sellers are private individuals selling their own used gear. If you sell as a business (regularly, for profit, or in the course of trade) you must make that clear in your listings, and buyers then benefit from additional rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 that do not apply to purchases from private sellers.

5.2 Listing Rules

Sellers must describe items accurately and honestly, use their own real photographs of the actual item, state the condition fairly, and price in GBP. You may only list items you own and have the right to sell.

5.3 Payments, Fees and Escrow

All payments are processed by Stripe. Sellers must complete Stripe Connect onboarding (including identity and bank verification) before receiving payouts. GilledIt charges an 8% platform fee on each sale, deducted from the seller's payout.

How escrow works: when a buyer pays, the funds are held by the platform rather than paid straight to the seller. The seller then ships the item (or arranges local handover). Funds are released to the seller when the earliest of these happens: the buyer confirms receipt in the app; the carrier confirms delivery and 72 hours pass without a problem being reported; or 7 days pass after the seller marks the item shipped with no delivery confirmation and no reported problem. Reporting a problem before release pauses the release until the issue is resolved.

5.4 Shipping and Local Handover

Sellers must dispatch within a reasonable time (normally 3 working days) and are encouraged to use a tracked service and add the tracking reference in the app, which enables automatic delivery confirmation. For local pickup listings, both parties confirm the handover in the app, which releases the funds.

5.5 Refunds, Problems and Buyer Protection

If an item does not arrive, or arrives significantly not as described, report it in the app before the escrow releases. While a report is open the seller's funds stay held. Where a claim is upheld, the buyer is refunded from the held funds (return of the item at the buyer's cost may be required for not-as-described claims). Because most sales are between private individuals, there is no change-of-mind return right; business sellers must honour the 14-day cancellation right under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. GilledIt decides marketplace disputes in good faith on the evidence provided and its decision on the release of escrowed funds is final, without affecting either party's legal rights against the other.

5.6 Chargebacks

If a buyer raises a card chargeback, the transaction is frozen and handled through Stripe's dispute process. Sellers agree to provide evidence (tracking, photos, messages) on request. Where a chargeback is lost after funds were released, GilledIt may recover the amount from the seller. Abusing chargebacks to obtain goods without paying is fraud and leads to account termination.

5.7 Prohibited Items

The following may not be listed on the GilledIt marketplace:

  • Fish, bait animals or any live or dead animal
  • Stolen tackle or equipment
  • Counterfeit or replica branded goods
  • Weapons, and any item illegal to sell or possess in the UK (including certain knives even where sold as fishing tools)
  • Items that cannot lawfully be posted (some batteries, gas canisters and flammables) unless listed as local pickup only
  • Anything other than fishing-related equipment

6. Challenges, Leaderboards & Badges

GilledIt runs weekly fishing challenges and awards badges for achievements. Leaderboard rankings are calculated based on verified catch data submitted through the app.

We reserve the right to remove entries, disqualify users, or adjust leaderboards if we detect fraudulent activity, including fabricated catches or manipulated weights.

Challenges and badges are provided for community enjoyment and do not constitute prizes or competitions with monetary value unless explicitly stated.

7. Intellectual Property

The GilledIt name, logo, brand, design, and all original content produced by GilledIt are our intellectual property and protected by copyright and trademark laws.

You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works based on GilledIt’s intellectual property without our prior written consent.

8. Limitation of Liability

GilledIt is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free from viruses.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Taine Ltd (trading as GilledIt) shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or marketplace disputes.

GilledIt is not responsible for the accuracy of user-submitted catch data, fishing spot information, or marketplace listings.

9. Termination & Suspension

You may delete your account at any time through the app settings. Upon deletion, your personal data will be removed in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, community guidelines, or marketplace rules. We will notify you of any action taken and provide the reason, except in cases of severe violations or legal requirements.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by email. Continued use of GilledIt after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

11. Governing Law

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of GilledIt shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
