How selling works

From photo to payout in days, not weeks

  1. 1. List in 60 seconds

Open GilledIt → Marketplace → Sell. Photos, title, price, condition. No insertion fee. We auto-suggest a price based on completed comparable sales in-app.

  2. 2. Buyer pays into escrow

Buyer taps Buy. Stripe Connect collects the funds and holds them in escrow. You see 'Paid — ship now' in your seller dashboard.

  3. 3. Ship with tracked postage

Print the postage label from the dashboard (Royal Mail Tracked 24/48 or Evri). 17track confirms delivery automatically — no buyer ghosting.

  4. 4. Get paid into your bank

On delivery confirmation, Stripe releases the funds (less 8%). Payouts arrive in your bank within 1-2 working days. No PayPal limbo, no chargebacks on cleared sales.

Selling fishing tackle on GilledIt — FAQ

The three honest options are GilledIt, eBay and Facebook Marketplace. GilledIt is the only one built for anglers and the only one with escrow-backed buyer protection. eBay's listing fees, 12.8% final-value cut and free-returns liability eat into prices; Facebook is full of PayPal Friends-and-Family scams. GilledIt charges a flat 8% on the sale, holds funds in escrow until delivery, and you list in 60 seconds.

Listings are free. We take 8% of the sale price when a buyer pays — that covers Stripe payment processing, escrow, 17track delivery confirmation, and dispute handling. There's no monthly fee, no insertion fee, no relisting fee. The buyer pays for shipping (or local pickup if you both prefer).

Yes. Funds go into Stripe-managed escrow when the buyer pays. We only release them when delivery is confirmed (you confirm, or 17track confirms via tracking, or 7 days elapse if the buyer goes quiet). If gear doesn't arrive or isn't as described, the buyer can open a dispute — we mediate and refund from escrow. No PayPal F&F scams. No chargebacks on cleared sales.

Daiwa, Shimano, Korda and Trakker hold value best. Specifically: 12 ft 3.0lb+ carp rods (£40-£120 used), big-pit reels (£60-£200), 1-man bivvies (£60-£180), bite alarms (£40-£100 per set), and unhooking mats (£15-£40). Tackle in working condition with original packaging sells in days. Tackle without photos sits for weeks.

For payouts above £100, Stripe Connect verifies your name and bank account (UK standard KYC). It's a 90-second process when your first listing sells. For smaller payouts no additional verification is needed beyond your GilledIt account.

Rule of thumb: condition new = 65-75% of RRP, like-new = 50-60%, good = 35-45%, fair = 20-30%. Look at completed eBay listings for the same model to anchor the market. On GilledIt you'll see comparable sold prices in-app. Price competitively and items sell in days; price greedily and they sit.

Independent tackle shops sometimes buy second-hand stock, typically at 30-50% of resale value (because they need margin). GilledIt direct-to-angler sells achieve 60-80% of resale — but you do the photos and posting. Cash-only Facebook deals are higher-risk; we strongly recommend escrow.
