Methodology

How we compute these numbers

Venue counts come from the GilledIt fishing venue directory: OpenStreetMap fishing-tagged waters cross-referenced with the Environment Agency’s Where to Fish data and fishery websites, then deduplicated and reverse-geocoded to postcode and county. Capability counts (websites, species, prices) reflect what each venue’s own website publishes at the most recent crawl. Day-ticket price statistics are parsed conservatively from harvested price snippets — we only accept a £ figure explicitly tied to a day rate (never annual, night or syndicate prices), which is why the sample (35 venues) is smaller than the 125 venues with any price published. Carp-water counts require carp explicitly named in the venue’s species data. Species counts are the size of our editorial catalogues; licence prices are quoted directly from gov.uk. Every statistic on this page is generated from a single canonical dataset at build time, so figures cannot drift between pages. Figures were last refreshed in July 2026.

UK fishing statistics: FAQ

Day tickets at UK fisheries range from £3 to £20 with a median of £10, based on GilledIt's sample of 35 venues publishing day-rate prices (as of July 2026). Premium specimen carp waters can charge more, and night fishing usually adds to the day rate. Remember you also need an Environment Agency rod licence (£36.80/year for 2 rods) on top of any day ticket in England and Wales.

GilledIt's directory lists 3,374 named, deduplicated fishing venues across Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and the nine English regions (as of July 2026). The true national total is higher — not every club water or private pool is publicly mapped — but this is one of the largest verified, deduplicated UK venue datasets published.

GilledIt's UK species catalogue documents 110 species across coarse, game and sea fishing — from roach, tench, barbel and carp to trout, salmon, bass and pollack. Across the UK and US catalogues combined, GilledIt covers 266 species (as of July 2026).
