About Clear Lake

Clear Lake in Lake County is California's largest natural freshwater lake lying wholly within the state — about 43,800 acres and 68 square miles — and at an estimated 2.5 million years it is often cited as the oldest lake in North America. Its rocky points, tule beds and docks make it one of the country's premier largemouth bass fisheries: Bassmaster has ranked it the best bass lake in the West four years running and put it at No. 1 in the nation in recent rankings. Big channel catfish and crappie back up the bass, county parks and ramps provide access, and a California license is required.
