A tackle shop at the head of the park sells bait including maggots, pellets, sweetcorn and luncheon meat, and accommodation ranges from log cabins and glamping pods to about 150 touring caravan and camping pitches with electric hook-up. Carsington Water is Severn Trent's big Peak District-edge reservoir between Wirksworth and Ashbourne in Derbyshire, the ninth largest in England and 31 metres deep when full. The trout fishery runs from a mid-March opening through to late autumn, with stocked rainbows around the 2lb mark (browns are present too) fished from bank and boat; day permits combine a fish limit with catch and release, and recent published rates have been around £35 for a four-fish day. Boats book out fast for the opening weekends, and evening sessions run by advance booking through summer. Permits and boats book through the fishery at the visitor centre; confirm current prices and hours before travelling.
