About Carsington Water

Carsington Water is Severn Trent's big Peak District-edge reservoir between Wirksworth and Ashbourne in Derbyshire, the ninth largest in England and 31 metres deep when full. The trout fishery runs from a mid-March opening through to late autumn, with stocked rainbows around the 2lb mark (browns are present too) fished from bank and boat; day permits combine a fish limit with catch and release, and recent published rates have been around £35 for a four-fish day. Boats book out fast for the opening weekends, and evening sessions run by advance booking through summer. Permits and boats book through the fishery at the visitor centre; confirm current prices and hours before travelling.
