About Loch Lomond

Loch Lomond is the largest expanse of fresh water in Great Britain by surface area, straddling the Highland Boundary Fault less than an hour from Glasgow. Salmon and sea trout run through the loch to the Endrick and Leven systems, alongside pike, perch, roach, dace and chub, and angling is managed by the Loch Lomond Angling Improvement Association: 2026 day permits are £30 for game fishing, coarse fishing is £10 a day, weekly permits are £80, and there is no fishing on Sundays under association rules. The loch also holds powan, a protected whitefish that must not be targeted and goes straight back if hooked by accident. No rod licence is needed in Scotland — the LLAIA permit is your permission to fish, from bank or boat.
