About Llandegfedd Reservoir

Llandegfedd Reservoir near Pontypool is Welsh Water's flagship south Wales fishery and home of the UK rod-caught pike record: 46lb 13oz, taken by Ray Lewis in 1992. Stocked rainbow trout (with native browns) are fished from bank and boat from 1 March to the end of October, alongside coarse fishing for bream, roach, dace and eels; 2026 permits run £20 for trout catch-and-release up to £25 for eight fish, £12 for a coarse day, and pike fishing is limited to Sundays and Mondays in March and October at £35 from the bank or £80 by boat. An Environment Agency / Natural Resources Wales rod licence is needed on top of the permit. Book through the visitor centre and confirm dates before travelling, pike places sell out.
