Raker Lakes is a coarse and specimen carp fishery set in 28 acres of landscaped countryside at Wheldrake, just south of York. Four coarse lakes, Acorn, Heron, Highbank and Horseshoe, run on a simple walk-up system with cash tickets posted in envelopes on site, holding carp, tench, bream, crucians, roach, rudd, perch, chub and dace. Kingfisher, the 6.5 acre specimen lake, was stocked in 2000 and now holds around 70 carp between 20 and 30lb with a lake record of 33lb 4oz; pegs there are booked in advance through lakebookings.com. A small touring caravan site sits alongside; see rakerlakes.com for current prices.
