About Furnace Lakes
Furnace Lakes is a carp and catfish fishery on the Furnace Lakes Estate at Slinfold, a few miles west of Horsham in West Sussex, with six waters and some of the biggest fish in the south east. Roman Lake headlines with catfish reported from 60lb to past 90lb over carp to 49lb, Plantation holds around 160 English carp from high teens to beyond 50lb, and Kiln and the Specimen Lake back them up with thirties and forties. Furnace Lake itself and Hyes give more affordable pleasure fishing over carp and silvers. The specimen waters are fished mainly as 24 and 48 hour sessions, with pleasure lake day tickets cheaper; prices are not firmly published, so confirm with the fishery on 01403 458450. A large tackle shop and fishing lodges sit on site.

The lakes
Six waters sit on the estate. Roman Lake, four acres and up to 13 feet deep, is the catfish water, with cats reported from 60lb into the 90s over carp to 49lb. Plantation, the biggest at 6.5 acres, holds around 160 English mirrors and commons from high teens past 50lb, while the three acre Specimen Lake carries 90 plus doubles with a record around 42lb and Kiln stacks 150 plus fish from mid twenties to 40lb. Furnace Lake and Hyes are the pleasure waters, with carp to 40lb and 28lb respectively plus tench, bream, roach and perch.
Tickets and prices
The four specimen waters, Roman, Plantation, Specimen and Kiln, are geared to long sessions: directory listings show 24 hours around £35, 48 hours around £65 and days around £25, with a minimum 24 hour stay applying on some of them and under 12s not allowed on those lakes. Furnace and Hyes run cheaper day tickets, listed from roughly £10 to £20 depending on rods. Listings vary and prices change, so ring 01403 458450 or check furnacelakesestate.co.uk before travelling. The gate is open 7am to 7pm, seven days a week.
What to fish for
The catfish are the signature: Roman Lake cats have been reported past 90lb, which puts Furnace among the leading catfish waters in the south of England. Carp anglers get a genuine shot at a fifty on Plantation and forties on Kiln and Roman, with the Specimen Lake's best listed at 42lb 10oz. The pleasure lakes fish far easier, with mixed silvers alongside the carp. As ever with specimen stock claims, treat top weights as reported rather than guaranteed and ask the fishery what has been coming out recently.
Facilities and access
The estate sits on Guildford Road, the A281, at Slinfold a few miles west of Horsham, with hard roads around the lakes and parking close to most swims. A large on site bait and tackle shop covers essentials, basic fishing lodges offer overnight comfort, and day and night bailiffs patrol the complex. Whole lake hire has been offered from autumn to early spring, and a snack wagon has operated in season. Facilities change over time, so confirm what is running when you book.
